Phil Collins or Elton John?

A little while back I was having a rough day.

I cried.

Cried more.

Was overwhelmed.

So I called my Bwiti mentor, Apollon, for help.

"I feel bad. Sad. Like it’s all too much."

I heard his silence on the line as he took in my melancholic desperation.

"It’s normal to feel sad sometimes. There are good days and bad days. It’s a balance."

Deep breath in.

Deep breath out.

"What have you been doing while you’ve been sad?" he asked.

I had done some emotional release. Felt my feelings. Talked to my partner. Cuddled the cat. But was still feeling like baaaad.

"Well… Now I’m listening to Radiohead. Loudly."

"Oh. Well," he said. "That’s only going to make you feel worse."

Then he explained to me that music carries vibration. It literally IS vibration — frequencies — but it also carries the frequency of joy and expansion or sadness and contraction.

All music can be divided into these categories.

Positive. Negative.

Expanding. Contracting.

All that you do feeds you with frequencies. It amplifies the frequencies within you.

It’s the Law of Attraction (like attracts like).

So if you want to amplify sadness and anger, listen to that. If you want to resource yourself to feel better, listen to music that has a positive vibration.

Then he said, "That’s why I prefer Phil Collins over Elton John. Phil is good for your spirit. Elton will depress you."

(One of my favourite things about Apollon is that he’s a super profound African Bwiti master with greying hair but he references things like Phil Collins, Will Smith and the Devil Wears Prada 😂)

"So…", he continued, "pay attention to what you’re listening to".

A question for you today: what frequencies are you feeding yourself with your music?

Does your music expand you and give you energy?

Does it flatten you or make you harder?

To support your vibration, Apollon made you a playlist! It’s so rad and maybe not what you’d expect.

Listen to it on Spotify here.

May you amplify the frequencies you DESIRE in your life.

What do you see?

Is this a picture of a wine glass or two faces?

Or is it both?

They seem so different, yet the image contains both at the same time.

The mind and body are connected in a similar way…

You might think that the mind and body are very different from each other (like a wine glass and faces), but they’re not seperate from the other. They are connected —

They affect each other.

They depend on each other.

They form each other.

One expresses the other.

That’s why somatic (embodied) healing is so important when you’re wanting to heal mental, emotional, relational or sexual issues.

Your body needs to be involved because it IS already involved.

If you’re having issues, they show up in your body as sensations and feelings (like tightness, anxiety or panic), bodily responses (like lack of sexual interest or little energy) or even as illnesses (like chronic or unexplained illness).

You can’t simply talk your way out of this.

You need to drop down into letting yourself feel.

Feel it to heal it.

When you let yourself feel your body, you’ll find the way through.

Do you want support to work through issues you’re experiencing? I can help you with mental, emotional, relational and sexual freedom and wellness.
